UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured the 20th edition of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) at the Dubai World Trade Centre today.
At Sheikh Saeed Hall, Sheikh Mohammed stopped at various pavilions where he was briefed on the potentials and features offered by countries taking part in the four-day event. Public and private entities from the UAE and Arab Countries including Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon and Qatar put on a smart display to lure visitors.
Stopping at the pavilion of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on the department’s programmes aimed at promoting Dubai as the favourite destination for family tourism.
Next stop was the stand of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by GDRFA Director Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri about smart e-Gate project at Terminal 3 of the Dubai Airport which can process a passenger transaction in one minute.
As per directives by His Highness, Terminal 3 at the Dubai International Airport will be equipped with 14 new e-Gate systems this year and similar systems will be installed in Terminal 1 and 2 as well.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, State Minister Reem Al Hashimi, Dubai Director of Protocol and Hospitality Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre and Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing Hilal Saeed Al Marri.
Afterwards, Sheikh Mohammed stood at the Expo 2020 stand, where a grand model of the Expo 2020 Project is showcased. The project will be built in Jebel Ali near Al Maktoum International Airport should UAE’s bid to host the mega event succeeds.
Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by Managing Director of the Higher Committee for Hosting the World Expo 2020 Reem Al Hashimi about the project components and facilities. His Highness praised efforts exerted by the committee and stressed that all human, logistic, financial and official resources be dedicated to support UAE's bid to host Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Expressing satisfaction with the excellent level of organisation, Sheikh Mohammed described the event, which saw the participation of over 2,500 exhibitors from 80 countries, as a platform where international entities gather to utilise the tools of the tourism industry to promote their culture.
His Highness also visited the Dubai Police stand which displayed its newest addition to the patrol vehicles unit; namely the luxury sports vehicles that will be used at prime tourist locations in the emirate of Dubai. His Highness was briefed by female officers about the technical features of the new patrol vehicles.
Sheikh Mohammed also visited the 2013 Airport Show held in parallel with ATM in which 250 exhibiting companies highlight the latest technologies in building and equipping civil airports.
