Sheikh Mohammed's statement marking Dubai Air Show 2009
The 11th Dubai Air Show is yet another success that we can add to the UAE's long record of achievements. The show, one of the three most important international aviation events, has strengthened its world-renowned reputation in various ways; it has shown an increase in the volume and number of participants, the number of visitors and the quality of high-end products in the aerospace industry.
This continued success positions the show at the top of the agenda for corporations involved in the air industry, technology, marketing, supply, construction and airport management. The event also draws numerous senior officials from the defence and the civil and military aviation sectors in friendly countries - a distinction which makes Dubai Air Show the fastest growing exhibition in the world.
This achievement coincides with ongoing efforts to strengthen the UAE's pioneering position as a strategic bridge between East and West in the global air transport business. It is most satisfying that the UAE's example is being followed by many countries who have realized the aviation industry's key role in income diversification, either through allowing direct access to air transport economies or by promoting international trade and tourism.
Developments over the past few years have led to massive growth in regional air transport, airports and quality of service, thus maximising the region's share - now the fastest growing worldwide.
This successful record, which is only one step on a long journey, has strengthened our self-confidence, optimism and pride, and served as motivation for more hard work. It also places more emphasis on quality, excellence and innovation. This record can only be kept by exploring new horizons - a fact driven home by our ongoing plans and projects in all fields.
We are thankful to the Almighty that our air transport projects are moving ahead in tandem with predetermined schedules. Terminal three at Dubai International Airport was completed and put into full operation last year, and flydubai, the low-cost carrier, was launched this summer. At the same time our national airlines continue to grow and expand as active participants in the global air transport network.
On this occasion it gives me pleasure to welcome exhibitors and distinguished guests to the 11th Dubai Air Show. It is worth mentioning that the success of this show, which comes hot on the heels of the financial crisis, gives the air transport industry around the world a much needed boost, an inspires hope that the worst is over for the world economy and that recovery is underway.Saturday, November 14, 2009
