UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented the 16th Dubai World Cup trophy to Yoshimi Ichikawa, owner of the winning horse Victoire Pisa, which won the feature race at Meydan racecourse this evening.
The Japanese-trained horse, ridden by Italian Mirco Demuro, galloped home to win the world's richest race, with the owner receiving prize money of US$ 6 million out of the total prize of fund of US$ 10 million.
Sheikh Mohammed congratulated the owner on the impressive win, in front of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Finance Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and millions of racing enthusiasts watching around the world.
Also present at the race festival were Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police and Public Security Lt. General Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, other sheikhs, senior officials and a large crowd of racing fans.
During a ceremony held earlier today, Sheikh Mohammed awarded the Legion of Honour to the Chairman of the Board of Meydan, Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, in recognition of his efforts in completing the Meydan project in record time.
Sheikh Mohammed also awarded the Golden Sword to Ahmed Abdulla Al Sheikh, Meydan's Deputy Chairman, and other board members for their effective contributions in completing the Meydan project in less than 22 months.
