The launch of Dubai Silicon Oasis

The following is the translated transcript of Sheikh Mohammed's speech announcing the launch of Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Peace and blessings be upon you.

In the UAE, a long time ago, we adopted a clear and ambitious vision and defined targets to ensure continuing growth, progress and prosperity and to create security and stability.

Thanks to Allah, the Great and Almighty, and to the wise leadership of the UAE President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may Allah protect him, and to H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and to the great efforts of our citizens, this vision will remain a flag flying high to mark our path.

Since the signs of international changes became apparent, we have moved to create a solid foundation in the new economy and we have looked in all directions, wanting to position ourselves at the forefront of the emerging economies.

The accomplishments we have realised over the past few years have put our country amongst the first countries that use IT and telecommunications. Dubai has become the region's hub for new technology, which boosts our confidence in our vision for the future, confirming the soundness of our path and encouraging us to go forward. I am happy that we are participating in the Communicant project in Germany, especially as the project will expand to Dubai. Today I unveil a new project - manufacturing and designing semiconductors and chips. I am pleased to announce the launch of Dubai Silicon Oasis.

I have made the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority responsible for the administration of the new project and for the effort necessary to achieve its objectives, particularly training the people of the UAE in modern technology. I also order all relevant sectors to cooperate and to offer all necessary support to ensure the best outcome.
